Decorating Your Event Safely
We always encourage you to be creative in your decorating
for events. Many vendors in the area can assist you with balloons,
streamers, props, etc., but keep safety in mind.
Helium Tanks can become "Unguided
Missiles"
A falling gas cylinder can rupture the pressurereducing
fitting or valve causing the cylinder to become an "unguided
missile."
It is imperative that all gas cylinders in service or storage,
empty or full, be secured to other rigid structures so that they
will not fall or be knocked over. During movement or storage,
cylinder caps should be in place.
- Never force a gas Cylinder valve. If the valve cannot be
opened by the wheel or small wrench, the cylinder should be returned.
- Open cylinder valve slowly.
- Protect against heat from sunlight or other heat sources.
- Never jar or bounce cylinders.
- Do not abandon tanks in Aldrich Park or in a plaza.
Always have someone designated to call
Campus Emergency
(Fire, Police, Ambulance)
at (949) 824-5222 when necessary. |
Decorations can increase fire
and panic hazards.
- All decorations should be made from nonflammable
materials,or should be treated and maintained in a flame-retardant
solution or process.
- Secure poles or any possible falling objects very
carefully.
- Decorations must not block exits.
