2013 Summer Orientation Program

Welcome to the UC Irvine information page for new student orientation! We are thrilled you are considering UCI as one of your college options. We offer a number of different orientation programs for different student populations. Please read on to find the orientation program that is right for you.

The Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) is offered many times each summer in July and August for new freshmen students and their parents/guardians. Orientation is mandatory for all incoming freshmen.

New international freshmen have a program designed just for them called the International Student Orientation (ISO), which will be held in late September. International freshmen who attended high school in the United States will have the option to attend either SPOP or ISO. International freshmen who attended high school outside of the United States will be required to attend ISO.

Transfer students have a special program, Transfer Success, which will be held twice in July. Transfer Success is an optional half-day program designed to help transfer students learn all they need to make a successful transition to life at UCI. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend Transfer Success as well.

Reservations for orientation will be available online on May 28th at 4:00pm for select populations (Athletes, Campuswide Honors Students, students registered with Disability Services, Veterans, Reservists, & ROTC students (except for UCI Army ROTC), and transfer students).

Beginning June 3rd at 4:00pm windows to make a reservation for all other students will begin opening. Students will be assigned a reservation window based on the school of their major.

Campus tours, social activities and meeting current and new UCI students are also a part of the program. You can attend SPOP with or without your parents/guardians...whatever works for you!

There is a fee to attend SPOP (2 day, 1 night program).Scholarship rates are available for SPOP students who qualify. Parents or guardians can participate, for a fee, on Day 2 of each SPOP. There will be special presentations and workshops just for them. Please note, housing accommodations are not provided for parents/guardians attending SPOP. International Freshmen

If you attended high school in the United States, you have the option of attending ISO or SPOP. If you did not attend high school in the United States, ISO is the right program for you.

ISO provides participants with a comprehensive orientation to UCI that has been specifically tailored to the needs to international students who are new to the U.S. The program includes room and board for students during the program period.*** Because ISO takes place in September, students who attend the program will receive academic advising and enroll in classes earlier in the summer via a special webinar. ISO includes an academic advising review session as well as an opportunity to meet with the international student liaison in the school of your major. Campus tours, social activities, information on getting around Irvine and meeting current and new UCI students are also a part of ISO. ISO is a program for freshmen international students only. There is no parent/guardian component to ISO.

2013 International Student Orientation (ISO) Date***
$270 per student

***Students attending ISO will have housing provided throughout the program. In addition, if they will be living in on-campus housing during the academic year, ISO participants will be able to move into their academic year housing one day early, on Friday, September 20 when ISO ends. On campus housing includes the Mesa Court, Middle Earth, Arroyo Vista, Campus Village, Camino del Sol, Vista del Campo, and Vista del Campo Norte housing communities.

Transfers

The transfer experience at UCI should be positive and enriching, both academically and socially. This year we are offering new transfer students two options for orientation -Transfer Success and Transfer Student Parent Orientation Program (T-SPOP). Both orientation programs are optional. Academic advising is NOT included in either of these programs, but is mandatory. Please contact the school of your major for academic advising information.

Transfer Success is a half-day orientation that will provide you with information about UCI resources, the opportunity to meet current UCI students and other new transfers, and a chance to ask all your questions before classes begin! It will also include a lunch with our student staff and a Resource Fair. Academic advising will not be included during these programs but many academic units will be offering advising in the afternoon following Transfer Success.
